The evening begins with a dance lesson by Mikke Tilli and Marianna Manninen, where you can get to know the swinging Lindy Hop. You can put your new skills to use later in the evening when The Swingbirds, with Elina Kardén as their vocalist, lead you into the atmosphere of 1930s and 1940s swing jazz. The evening opens with the vocal ensemble SwingingMamas from Salo. SwingingMamas is a vocal ensemble from Salo, founded in 2018 and made up of three music professionals. The group features actor-singer Saija-Reetta Kotirinta, music pedagogue Malla Pelo, and music teacher Maiju Valjus. In addition to three-part vocal harmonies, the trio also plays violin and flute. The ensemble is accompanied by Janne Kuusinen on piano and accordion. The trio’s musical style includes schlager from the 1950s and 1960s as well as light jazz. Wherever the Mamas perform, joy, color, and beautiful singing are guaranteed! Elina Kardén and her jazz companions The Swingbirds play authentic jazz music whose high-quality sound suits both dancing and seated audiences. This highly skilled group of musicians will take you on a time journey back to the 1930s across the Atlantic. With her authentic style, jazz singer Elina Kardén transports listeners to the atmosphere of old tube radios and record players. For years, Elina has performed with various ensembles for Lindy Hop and rock & swing dancers, and this year she was also seen as the headliner of the Scandinavian Shuffle dance event. She has also performed several times as a featured vocalist with the renowned UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra. Elina’s warm and resonant voice ranges from tender ballads to energetic scat improvisations — in the footsteps of Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O'Day. A special feature of the singer is her excellent vocal imitation, which she loves to use to entertain the audience.
